Assailants have reportedly conducted a petrol bomb attack on the July martyrs’ monument in Barguna on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred after midnight near the northeast corner of the Circuit House field, according to police sources.
A video of the attack has since gone viral on social media. The footage shows two individuals approaching the monument with petrol bombs in hand. One of them lights a bomb and throws it toward the monument before fleeing the scene.
The video was shared on Facebook by Barguna District Chhatra League President Rezaul Kabir Reza, who claimed that miscreants set fire to the monument in front of the Circuit House.
Md Yakub Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying, “We reached the spot around 1:00 am after receiving the report. There was no significant damage. Police are working to identify and apprehend those involved.”
Police remain on high alert to prevent any further acts of sabotage, he added.
