Physician shortage hampers healthcare in Bogura UZ

BOGURA, Jan 20: Medicare service is being disrupted severely due to acute shortage of physicians at Kahaloo Upazila Health Complex of Bogura district.

According to hospital sources, some twenty five posts against thirty posts are lying vacant for many years in the hospital in spite of urging the authority concerned to fill the posts.

Class III and Class IV posts, are also vacant, causing serious problem for the patients and attendants.

Amid the prevailing situation, patients particularly women, children and elderly people who come to the health complex seeking treatment for delivery cases and other complicated diseases including Hepatitis-B and cold related diseases, are facing varieties of difficulties.

The victims are seeking assistance of higher authority as soon as possible. They are being compelled to receive treatment at higher cost at different clinics and hospitals either in the district or other places.

Over 50,000 poor patients depend on Kahaloo Upazila Health Complex of the district for healthcare but it is miserably falling to provide proper services to the patients due to acute shortage of doctors, said Municipality Mayor Helal Uddin Kobiraj.

Concerned sources said, absencecrisis of Health Assistants are also hampering medicare services. Recently the government decided to give employment at different government hospitals and health complexes to smoothen the service.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. AKM Mostafizur Rahman said crisis of Class IV employees is more acute than that of physicians.
