Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday released two commemorative postage stamps, a first-day cover and a data card, marking the golden jubilee of conferring the 'Bangabandhu' title on Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She released the two Tk 10 stamps, the Tk 10 first-day cover and Tk 5 data card at her official residence Ganobhaban in the city in the afternoon, reports UNB.

A special canceller was used on the occasion.

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, Posts and Telecommunications acting Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas and General of Bangladesh Post Office Sushanta Kumar Mondal were, among others, present on the occasion.

The stamps, first-day covers and data cards will be sold from Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO from Saturday and those will be available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country later.

There is also an arrangement for special cancellers in four GPOs to be used for the first-day covers.

On February 23, 1969, on behalf of the Sarbadaliya Chhatra Sangram Parishad (All Parties Students Action Committee), its president Tofail Ahmed at a mass reception conferred the title of 'Bangabandhu' (Friend of the Bangalis) on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The mass reception had been arranged at the historic Ramna racecourse (now, Suhrawardy Udyan), a day after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was released from jail unconditionally.
