A desperate father burst into the prime minister’s office (PMO) in tears after learning his schoolboy son had been kidnapped. Within minutes, Tarique Rahman picked up the phone and ordered police to act—and less than an hour later, officers stormed an unfinished building in Khilgaon to rescue the boy.

Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Ramna Division, who was involved in the operation, told bdnews24.com that the boy is a ninth-grade student at National Ideal School in Khilgaon.

“He left the school around 2:30pm when four to five men intercepted him and took him to the seven-story building at Jorpukur,” Masud said.

“They beat him there and demanded Tk 50,000 in ransom, threatening to kill him. They took his father’s phone number and called him.”

After the father sought help from the PMO, police contacted the kidnappers, pretending they were ready to send the ransom.

“Once we identified the building, officers moved in and rescued the boy,” Masud said.

Sensing police presence, the kidnappers fled the scene.

The prime minister’s press wing said, “Upon hearing the news, the prime minister immediately instructed police over the phone to take swift action.”
