The upcoming BIMSTEC summit, which will be held in Bangkok on November 30, was highlighted during the discussion between the visiting Indian Foreign Secretary (East) Sourav Kumar and Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen on Thursday.
The foreign secretary also mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the summit.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the foreign secretary said issues related to the next general elections in Bangladesh did not come up in the discussion.
He said that Bangladesh is going to take over the chairmanship of the BIMSTEC during the upcoming summit, and an official from India will be the next secretary general of the group.
He said that they discussed issues related to security and trade under BIMSTEC.
The foreign secretary said that before the summit, there will be a meeting of the foreign ministers of the BIMSTEC countries in Bangkok on July 17.
