Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will highlight Rohingya crisis, climate change and the government’s inclusive economic development during her speech at the upcoming 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said at a press briefing on Thursday.

The prime minister is scheduled to deliver her speech at the UNGA on September 22 and will start for New York on September 17. This year’s UNGA theme is: “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”

US President Joe Biden has invited Prime Minister Hasina for a reception on September 19 on the sidelines of the UNGA. On the sidelines, she will attend several high-level meetings and have bilateral discussions with different heads of state.

"There is a possibility [for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina] to join President Biden's reception," Momen said, referring to Hasina’s busy schedule. "They (US) have invited us. We will finalise it at the last minute. It's a long queue,” he said.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Spokesperson of the ministry Seheli Sabrin were also present at the briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The first day of the high-level General Debate will be on September 19, Dr Momen said during the media briefing.

He said that issues related to world peace, security, safe migration, forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens’ crisis, establishment of climate justice will also come up in the prime minister’s speech.

On the sidelines of the General Debate phase, there will be several high-level meetings in which the prime minister may participate as well, according to Dr Momen.

Active participation by the delegation of Bangladesh, led by the prime minister, in the 78th session of the United Nations is expected to strengthen Bangladesh's position in multilateral forums and broaden the field of international cooperation in matters related to Bangladesh's interests, the foreign minister said.
