Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave for Saudi Arabia on Sunday to attend a conference titled 'Women in Islam: Status and empowerment'.
The conference will highlight Islamic teaching about ensuring dignity of women, foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said Thursday while briefing the media on the visit of the prime minister.
He said that dignitaries from several Muslim countries will participate in the conference, which will be followed by publication of the 'Jeddah document on women in Islam'.
The prime minister will be one of the key speakers in the conference which will start in the evening of November 6.
In her speech the prime minister will highlight different measures taken by her government to empower women in Bangladesh.
She may also speak about the stance of Bangladesh regarding the Israeli campaign in Palestine, the foreign minister added.
On the sidelines of the conference, the prime minister will meet several top officials of the OIC and dignitaries of some Islamic countries. She will also hold bilateral meeting with the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, where the entire gamut of bilateral issues will be discussed, the foreign minister said.
The prime minister will attend a reception accorded to her by the expatriate Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia the briefing was told.
