Police have identified and arrested the entire gang involved in the recent attack on a couple in the capital's Uttara. So far, three individuals have been shown arrested, but the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed that the total number of arrests is higher than reported.

A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the DMP Media Centre, where further details will be provided.

On Monday night, two suspects, Mohammad Mobarak Hossain (25) and Robi Roy (22), were arrested. The following day, another suspect, Alfaz Hossain Shimon (22), who was directly involved in the assault, was also taken into custody.

The incident occurred on the night of February 17 at around 9:30 pm on Road 9 of Sector 7 in Uttara, when a motorcycle, driving recklessly, collided with a rickshaw. The couple, Mehebull and Nasreen, who were on another motorcycle, protested the reckless driving. The riders on the motorcycle that hit the rickshaw then threatened and physically assaulted the couple. Later, they called in additional members, who, armed with weapons, attacked the couple.

Hearing the hue and cry, locals stepped in, captured Mobarak and Robi, gave them a thrashing, and then handed them over to the police.

The injured couple was rushed to a hospital and are reported to be out of danger. Nasreen Akter Ipti, the victim, has filed a case under the anti-terrorism law.
