Chattogram police have arrested a man accused of raping his stepdaughter.

The 16-year-old minor filed a case against her stepfather on Saturday, claiming that he had been threatening and raping her for the past six months, said Sadarghat Police OC Nezam Uddin.

The accused, Mohammad Majid, 49, is a covered van driver and lived with his wife and children in the port city’s Mogoltuli area.

Majid married the girl’s mother 10-12 years ago, according to OC Nezam. The girl lived with her stepfather’s family after the marriage.

Her mother worked as a domestic help at several houses, said Sadarghat Police Inspector Ruhul Amin. Majid threatened and raped the minor several times since last December when her mother was away, he said.

“The girl accused Majid of threatening to kill her and her mother if she told anyone of the rape. On Friday she fell ill and was taken to a local doctor by her mother. She was found to be pregnant and the matter came out.”

Majid was arrested on Saturday night, soon after the case was filed against him, reports bdnews24.
