Mohammadpur police have arrested three muggers and recovered a snatched mobile phone within 12 hours of a mugging incident in the capital.
The arrestees were identified as Yusuf, 26; Siam, 23; and Zahurul, 22.
According to police, a group of muggers intercepted a journalist and his wife when they were riding on a rickshaw around 11pm on Thursday in an alley near the Tin Rastar Mor area under Mohammadpur Police Station.
Armed with a machete, the criminals took away the journalist’s mobile phone and wallet, injuring him in the process, said DC media of DMP Talebur Rahman.
Following a complaint lodged with Mohammadpur Police Station, law enforcers led by the Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) conducted a drive and detained the three suspects within 12 hours of the incident.
Police said Yusuf was the prime accused in the mugging. The stolen phone was recovered from their possession.
Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway.
Meanwhile, four police personnel have been withdrawn over negligence in duty in connection with the incident.
