Police arrest two Jubo League leaders for extortion in Kushtia

Police arrested two leaders of Jubo League’s Kushtia Sadar upazila unit in an extortion case on Friday night.

The men were identified as Jubo League General Secretary Mijanur Rahman Miju, 36, and Kushtia town unit convener Ashraful Sujon, 40, reports UNB.

Kushtia police chief SM Tanvir Arafat said they arrested Mijanur from Hasanbag School area in Sadar upazila and Ashraful from his home Harishankarpur around 9:00pm.

“They were accused in an extortion case filed by a local businessman at the Kushtia Islamic University Police Station,” Arafat said.

Police are trying to arrest others named in the case, the SP added.

On Friday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jubo League’s central committee leader GK Shamim from Dhaka with illegal firearms and a huge amount of money.

Later that day, Kalabagan Krira Chakra President Safiqul Alam Firoz was detained. A pistol and yaba were seized from the club’s office.

On Wednesday, RAB arrested Jubo League leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan from Gulshan for reportedly running an illegal casino.
