Police have recovered the dismembered and decapitated body of a woman in Dhaka’s Savar. The victim’s husband has been detained for questioning over the matter.

The body of the housewife was found behind a restaurant in Birulia Union’s Dattapara area in Savar on Monday night, said Sub-Inspector Mohammad Wazed, chief of Birulia Police Outpost, reports bdnews24.com.

The victim, 28-year-old Shantana, used to live with her husband Nayan, 35, in a rented house in Savar’s Dattapara area. He is a mason by profession.

Locals discovered the woman’s mutilated body and informed officials at Savar Model Police Station, according to SI Wazed.

After combing the area, police recovered the severed head and hands wrapped in polythene a short distance away from the scene.

“The remains have been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy,” said SI Wazed.

Police suspect the murder may have taken place two or three days ago.

Savar Model Police Station OC Jewel Mia was called several times for information over the recovery of the body, but he did not respond to the phone calls.
