Police name four people in case filed over Madaripur speedboat capsize

Police have filed a case over the accident between a speedboat and a sand carrier on the Padma River in Madaripur’s Kathalbari that resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

Four people, including the driver of the speedboat and its owner, were named in the case filed on Monday, said Shibchar Police Station chief Miraz Hossain.

The case was filed by SI Lokman Hossain of the Kathalbari Port Marine Police Outpost, reports bdnews24.com.

The accused have been identified as speedboat owners Kandu Molla and Zahirul Islam, driver Shah Alam and Shimulia port leaseholder Shah Alam Akon. A few other unnamed individuals were also accused in the case.

Police are working to take swift legal action against the accused, OC Miraz said.

A passenger speedboat rammed into the bulkhead of a sand carrier near the Kathalbari pier on Monday. The bodies of 26 people were recovered afterwards. The bodies have since been turned over to the families of the dead.
