Police not taking case of FF’s wife

Wife of late freedom fighter Saju Mia of Barhatta upazila in Netrakona has seriously been injured when attacked by her neighbour Shamol Sen and his family members.

The victim Anuara Akter has seriously been injured when Shamol Sen and other four members of his family attacked her and her family with bamboo sticks and other locally made weapons on July 22 last.

Mrs Rokeya Akter, granddaughter in law of Anuara was also injured during the attack. Injured Anaura has been living in great horror and fear as local police was not filing case against the wrongdoers despite ten days of the incident.

Anuara and Rokeya were admitted to Barhatta Upazila Health Complex on July 22 and were discharged on July 27 after treatment of their severe injuries.

The attackers are still giving threats to kill Anuara but the local office incharge (OC) of Barhatta Thana is not filing case against the Sen family members which put the late Freedom Fighter's family in great vulneribility.

The incident took place at Anuara's resident Baghmara village in Asma Union of Barhatta Upazila in Netrakona.

Anuara filed a complaint in Barhatta police station, naming 5 people including Shamol Sen and Sudhit Sen, the OC has not registered the case in the police station till Sunday.

Anuara Akter, the wife of the brave freedom fighter, complained that there was a delay in filing the complaint due to his hospitalization. Now OC is not taking cases. Even though seven days have passed, the complaint has not been registered as a case. And the Sen family filed case on the same day she was attacked.

Sumon Mia, the son of a brave freedom fighter living in Dhaka, said the police station is recording one defendant case, they are not recording my mother's case.

This reporter has asked several times with Barhatta police station officer incharge OC Md Lutful Haque.

He said first, the complaint will be investigated, and then the plaintiff will be informed to come to the police station.

When asked why there is a delay in recording the case, the OC said he will take up the case later if the accused appeared.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Barhatta Upazila SM Mazharul Islam said that on July 26 he along with the OC, visited the vandalism and looting of the house of the brave freedom fighter.

Netrakona Superintendent of Police Md Akbar Ali Munshi was contacted several times in this regard but could not be found on the phone.

The reporter also tried to reach the SP on his WhatsApp but didn't get any comment.

Netrakona Deputy Commissioner Anjana Khan Majlis said that action will be taken if the victim's family makes a written complaint regarding the case.
