Police have launched an operation to hunt down the youth who allegedly hurled a plastic water bottle at Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam while he was addressing the protesting students of Jagannath University.
Ramna Zone Assistant Police Commissioner (AC) Abdullah Al Mamun said on Thursday that efforts are underway to identify and locate the youth.
He said that the accused is being identified through video footage, and legal action will be taken against him.
Earlier Adviser Mahfuj Alam went to speak with protesting Jagannath University students in front of the Kakrail Mosque on Wednesday night (May 14). While he was talking, a plastic water bottle was thrown at him. The video of the incident has already gone viral on the social media.
In the footage, a youth wearing a cap can be seen throwing the bottle from within the crowd while Mahfuj Alam was speaking with the students.
Police officers were seen nearby, and one of them is seen questioning the youth in the video.
Meanwhile, top leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have strongly criticised the incident.
They observed that criticism is a democratic right while physical assault is an act of barbarism.
