Police have neutralised two bombs reportedly planted by a young man at a shopping mall at Badda area of Dhaka.

Witnesses said he fled after placing a bag on the staircase of Tanha Plaza at the Gudaraghat on Gulshan-Badda Link Road around 12pm on Monday.

Before fleeing, he told people at the scene there were bombs in the bag, the witnesses said.

On being informed, a bomb disposal unit of the police visited the scene and found two improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Badda Police Station Inspector Nazrul Islam said they first thought it was a prank, but the bomb disposal unit later confirmed there were indeed bombs in that bag.

According to bdnews24.com, he said the IEDs were neutralised at the scene around 5pm.

The police official also said they would check CCTV camera footage of the area to identify the man who had planted the bombs.
