Police return 251 lost mobile phone sets to real owners

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) handed over on Thursday 251 lost and snatched mobile phone sets to their rightful owners.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Tejgaon zone of DMP Ibne Mizan handed over the mobile phone sets to the owners at Shyamoli in the capital.

DMP sources said police recovered and handed over the mobile phone sets to the owners as they (owners) filed general diaries and complaints with different police stations in the city. Police recovered the lost and snatched mobile phone sets by using information technology during the last one month.

Police at Sher-e- Bangla Nagar Police Station recovered 63 mobile phone sets while Hatirjheel Police Station 54, Mohammadpur Police Station 40, Tejgaon Industrial Police Station 32, Adabar Police Station 32 and Tejgaon Police Station 30.

Talking to the media, DC of DMP Ibne Mizan said that personal information and important pictures are being kept saved in mobile phone sets.

He said that police had formed a special team under Tejgaon zone to recover mobile phone sets.

He added the special team comprised six experienced police officials of six police stations under Tejgaon zone.

The team had applied different techniques and information technology and recovered the mobile phone sets.

He also said Assistant Police Commissioner of Tejgaon zone Robbani Hossain made a tireless effort with his team for recovering the lost and snatched mobile phone sets.

None was arrested during recovery of the mobile phone sets due to filling of GDs by the owners.

If the price of each mobile phone set is estimated at Tk20,000, the total value of the recovered sets will be around Tk 5.0 million, he added.

He called upon the people to file GD with their respective police stations if they lose their mobile phone sets. Asked about preventing mugging, he said that police nabbed more than 800 muggers during the last eight months. He said that the situation is now under control. Police teams were formed at different police stations in the city to prevent mugging, he added.
