The inquest into journalist Wahid Uz Zaman Bulu’s death has revealed multiple injuries, including a crushed face and broken arms, after his body was recovered in Khulna, reports bdnews24.com.
On Monday, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohidul Haque of Rupsha River Police Outpost said the cause of death would be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Police recovered the 60-year-old journalist’s body around 8:15pm on Sunday from under Khulna’s Khan Jahan Ali Bridge, later identified by family members.
Bulu had worked for Channel One, UNB, Ajker Kagoj, Bangobani and Dainik Probaho. Most recently, he was a senior staff correspondent at the daily Sangbad Protidin.
He was also a member of Khulna Press Club and Khulna Union of Journalists, according to Enamul Haque, convener of the press club’s interim committee.
Following the postmortem on Monday, his funeral prayer was held at Khulna Press Club, before burial at Goalkhali graveyard.
Bulu’s sister-in-law Nurunnahar Parvin said he left home on Sunday morning and his phone was switched off from noon.
Known locally as “Bulu Bhai of Shibbari Mor”, he once lived near the busy intersection, though the house was sold years ago amid what relatives described as disputes.
Childless, Bulu had posted on Facebook four months ago that his “mentally unstable” wife had gone missing.
His younger brother Anisuzzaman Dulu said, “He was under pressure from family issues. His wife has been missing for three months. He was also mentally strained by two incidents involving women. Still, his death is not natural. We demand a proper investigation.”
Bulu’s friend Kamrul Hossain added, “Visiting the scene, it seemed abnormal. Police must investigate thoroughly.”
