A Dhaka court has granted police five days to interrogate Mehedi Hasan Dipu, also known as Bipu, an alleged associate of “top criminal” Subrata Bain, in custody.
Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin issued the order on Saturday, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Hossain of prosecution police, bdnews24.com reports.
Joint forces arrested Bipu in a house at Middle Badda’s Beparipara around 8:30pm on Friday.
Law enforcers said they recovered 11 foreign pistols and ammunition from his possession.
Following the arrest, SI Md Hasanur Rahman filed a case under the Arms Act with Badda Police.
On Saturday, investigating officer SI Suman Mia produced Bipu in court and sought permission for interrogation, mentioning in his petition that Bipu and unnamed associates had long been secretly buying and selling illegal arms in Badda, Bhatara, and other parts of Dhaka.
The petition said: “When questioned about unidentified associates, Bipu tried to mislead police with contradictory information. He is extremely cunning.
“The case is under investigation. If released on bail, he may abscond.”
No lawyer appeared in court on Bipu’s behalf.
