The political parties will decide whether secularism will be excluded or not in the constitution, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Adviser on Monday.
The Attorney General recently opined in favour of excluding secularism from the constitution arguing that 90 per cent of the people of the country are Muslim and they do not want ‘secularism’ in the constitution.
“The government has formed a commission to reform the constitution. They will submit their report after consultation with the stakeholders. The government will hold dialogue with all the political parties and decisions regarding any change of the constitution will be finalised on the basis of the consensus among the political parties”, said Mr Alam when asked to comment on the attorney general’s view.
He was addressing a press briefing in the city along with his deputies- Azad Mazumder and Apurba Jahangir.
Mr Alam said that the price of essentials was coming down due to the government's relentless effort and it would further decrease.
About the demonstrations of the students of Titumir College in the city, he said all should keep patience as it requires time to resolve all the problems.
Responding to a criticism that some pro-Awami League members were included in the reform commission on mass media, he observed that though members were picked by the head of the commission, they were broad-based.
