The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against Jatiya Party (JP) leader Moshiur Rahman Ranga over allegations of taking bribes worth Tk 17 million in exchange for nominations in the 2018 national election.

The commission has also decided to file a case against former Kurigram-2 MP Panir Uddin Ahmed, who allegedly paid the money to secure the opportunity to contest the election.

Mr. Ranga is a former state minister for rural development and cooperatives, also a presidium member of the Jatiya Party, and a former party secretary general.

ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain said the decisions were taken at the meeting of the commission held at its headquarters on Monday. According to ACC, Mr. Ranga received the money despite having no business relationship with Panir Uddin Ahmed.

Investigations found that Mr. Panir is the proprietor of Jalil Biri Factory and Haque Special, a transport business.

On October 30, 2018, Tk 2.0 million was transferred from Mr. Ahmed's account at Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited's Kurigram branch to Ranga's account at the bank's Rangpur branch.

In November 2018, another Tk 15 million was deposited in four installments from Sonali Bank Limited's Kurigram branch into Ranga's account at Sonali Bank's Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban branch.
