The ruling Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance has recommended prohibiting the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, with the government set to implement the recommendation.
The recommendation came from a central 14-party alliance meeting at Ganabhaban on Monday night.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the decision to reporters at the Ganabhaban gate after the meeting.
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said, “We have decided to ban Jamaat-Shibir by consensus. It is now the government’s responsibility to implement the ban.”
Jatiya Samajtraik Dal (JASAD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, among others, was present at the meeting.
