The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Maulana Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri from Narsingdi district on Tuesday night.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday afternoon. According to Rahman, Ataur Rahman was apprehended by the Dhaka Metropolitan DB following a request from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and was later transferred to GMP.
A source from GMP revealed that, in line with instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the DB detained Ataur Rahman. Following his detention, he was handed over to the Tongi East Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station, Md. Mehedi Hasan, stated that there was an active detention order against Ataur Rahman issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
"After the DMP detained him, they handed him over to us, and we subsequently transferred him to Kashimpur Central Jail," he said.
