The Awami League has begun its meeting on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka’s Gulistan, marking its 75th anniversary.
The event, the first major programme in the capital since the national election, started in front of the party's central office at 3 pm.
Presided over by Dhaka South Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, the meeting is being moderated by General Secretary Humayun Kabir.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also the Awami League's General Secretary, is slated to address the event as the chief guest.
Party leaders and activists started gathering from 2 pm, preceding the scheduled 3 pm start time.
Councilors from every ward and affiliated bodies arrived in separate processions.
The Awami League’s rally coincides with BNP’s in front of its Naya Paltan office in Dhaka on the same day.
