Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam demanded trial for what he termed 'judicial killings' of political figures.
He made the demand while addressing a gathering at Shahbagh in the capital on Wednesday shortly after his release from jail.
Azhar, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, has been acquitted by the Appellate Division.
He was freed around 9:00 am on Wednesday from Bangladesh Medical University (PG hospital) where he was taken from Dhaka Central Jail for treatment.
Jamaat leaders and activists, including its Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, received Azharul Islam at Shahbagh.
Speaking on the occasion, Azhar said, "Those who were executed after being accused of war crimes were, in reality, victims of state-sanctioned killings in the name of justice. Those responsible must be brought to justice. Otherwise, this culture will continue."
"I was imprisoned for 14 years. Today, I've returned as a free citizen of an independent country," he said.
Azhar has thanked the High Court and his legal team for ensuring justice for him.
