BNP activist hacked to death in Bagerhat; attackers sever hand, flee with it

A BNP activist has been hacked to death in the Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat. His attackers severed his right hand and took it with them.
The incident took place on Monday night in Boulpur village of Hoglapasha Union, Morelganj Police Station chief Md Mahmudur Rahman said.
The deceased, 45-year-old Mintu Sheikh alias Mithu Sheikh, hailed from Boulpur village of Hoglapasha Union of Morelganj Upazila. He was a BNP member of Ward No. 9, bdnews24.com reports.
Morelganj Upazila BNP General Secretary Mehedi Hasan said, “Mintu Sheikh alias Mithu Sheikh was a dedicated worker for the party. We demand the administration arrest those involved in his murder.”
Police officer Mahmudur said, “Mintu Sheikh was returning home after tending to the banana plantation next to his house. A group of people who had been waiting in ambush blocked his path and indiscriminately slashed him with sharp weapons, causing bloody wounds.”
"They severed Mintu's right hand from his body and took it away. Later, locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Bagerhat Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead."
Mahmudur said Mintu’s body was handed over to his family following a post-mortem, adding the motive of the murder will be determined following an investigation.
