Three ministers, including Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, and one advisor to the government have briefed foreign diplomats about Bangladesh's current political climate in the aftermath of the violence surrounding the BNP’s antigovernment rally on Oct 28.
The briefing was held at the State Guest House Jamuna at 4 pm on Monday.
The foreign minister said that the government was shocked by what happened on Oct 28, but was not caught off guard because they had previous experience of the violence the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are capable of.
“They have not learnt anything from the past,” Momen said. “BNP has a long history of violence and vandalism and they are doing it again.”
Momen said that, despite hopes for a more peaceful turn, the opposition parties have not changed.
Representatives from nearly every foreign mission in Dhaka, the UN, and members of different international agencies attended the briefing.
