BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has demanded justice for the judicial killings during the regime of fascist Awami League (AL) government.
He made the demand while speaking at a memorial meeting for BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, organised by the Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu Smriti Sangsad at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Monday, marking his 10th death anniversary.
"We lost so many of our colleagues. There were 7 to 8 judicial killings like those of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders who were hanged in an unjust manner and our Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was also hanged.
Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was not sentenced to death but was killed in jail. Similarly, Pintu was not sentenced to death but he had to die in jail, he alleged.
"First of all, I demanded justice for those killings. Specially I demanded the government bring justice to Pintu's case, otherwise the small meeting will be bigger on the streets," he warned.
He also drew attention to the incident in Shahbagh and all of a sudden NCP held processions under the patronage of the government.
He alleged that those gatherings were to divert people's attention from incidents of Awami League leaders fleeing from the country.
The senior BNP leader commented on the influx of 'suspicious' foreign nationals. "We have noticed that many foreigners have arrived in this country. There are suspicious foreigners among them," he said
Ruling out the allegation that BNP was trying to rehabilitate Awami League, he said BNP leaders and activists could not sleep at home for 17 years. "17 years have been taken away from our lives. I, along with senior BNP leaders, have also made clear statements on the banning of the Awami League several times," he added.
Mirza Abbas mentioned that only the BNP is in the field to protect the country from foreign enemies.
Mirza Abbas commented that there is no opportunity to provide a humanitarian corridor through Bangladesh.
"We want to make it clear that there is no opportunity to provide any corridor or passage inside Bangladesh without the opinion of the people. The government elected through the people's vote will decide on what they will do," he said
Mirza Abbas alleged that Awami beneficiaries are still taking benefits in the secretariat.
