Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP’s standing committee and candidate for the paddy sheaf in Chattogram-11 constituency said BNP has ambitious plans for the country’s sports.
He said this during a discussion titled ‘Future of Sports in Chattogram’ on Sunday. The event, hosted by veteran cricketer Tamim Iqbal, took place at the Shaheed Fazlur Rahman Auditorium in Chattogram Port.
Tamim Iqbal urged Amir Khasru to prioritize sports in Chattogram and the country.
He also mentioned plans to reconvene yearly follow-up discussion to assess progress in the sports sector.
Israfil Khasru, a Bangladesh Cricket Board Councilor, was also present at the event.
Amir Khasru emphasized the importance of sports to brighten country’s image in global arena. He highlighted that when a country excels in sports, it gains international recognition.
Tamim’s achievements have significantly boosted Bangladesh’s reputation. Sports serve as the country’s soft power, and there are significant concerns regarding the future of sports.
If elected, they have ambitious plans for the sports sector. The purpose of the meeting was to gather feedback on the existing sports plan and identify areas for improvement, he said.
Amir Khasru said Tarique Rahman has outlined a comprehensive plan for sports, and input from stakeholders is crucial for refining the strategy.
Amir Khasru acknowledged the importance of listening to the sports community to improve the plan further.
The meeting aimed to address any shortcomings and incorporate diverse perspectives to promote democracy in sports.
Amir Khasru supported Tamim Iqbal’s suggestion to reconvene year-end discussion to review the progress in the sports.
He emphasized the importance of accountability in politics, a key focus for the BNP. Khasru also proposed the idea of a sports-centric economy, stating that increased participation in sports would lead to greater interest, activity, and transactions within society and the country.
The event was attended by sports organizers, academy coaches, national players, and other sports enthusiasts from Chattogram.
