BNP leader and former state minister Lutfozzaman Babar has fallen ill during his Umrah flight and has been hospitalised in Dubai after falling critically ill and experiencing breathing difficulties.

Babar’s Personal Assistant Mirza Haider Ali said, “Sir was on board a flight when he fell ill and began experiencing severe breathing difficulties. He was rushed to a clinic close to the airport after they landed.”

“Doctors conducted tests there and recommended admitting him to a hospital. Now sir is admitted to a hospital in Dubai. He is receiving treatment under close observation by doctors.”

Haider said that Babar and his eldest son Labib Ibne Zaman left for Madinah at 6pm on Thursday on board an Emirates Airlines flight.

Babar’s wife and other members of his family had left for Madinah several hours before. They learnt of Babar’s hospitalisation after their arrival.

Babar’s family has requested the people of Bangladesh and the BNP’s activists to pray for his wellbeing, Haider said.

The BNP leader was acquitted in several cases and freed from prison after 17 years on Jan 16.

On Jan 20, he was admitted to Gulshan’s United Hospital with chest pains. He was under close observation at the CCU for several days.
