The BNP has described the 2026 election as “free and fair” and said its victory is "certain".

The remarks were made on Thursday by Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the BNP’s Election Management Committee, at a press conference, bdnews24.com reports.

“By establishing the people’s right to vote, the victory of the [BNP's electoral symbol] paddy sheaf -- that is, the victory of the BNP -- is assured in a free, fair and acceptable election,” he said.

“Since the people’s right to vote is going to be established after a long time in this election, there are many emotions, desires and feelings centered around it.”

Amin, who is also an advisor to BNP chief Tarique Rahman, raised allegations against rival political forces.

“Fearing defeat, the opposing political party has given rise to several unwanted and violent incidents in many places since last night, which conscious citizens have brought to the attention of the media and prevented,” he said.

“The incidents are a clear violation of the election code of conduct.”

He maintained that voter turnout across the country reflected strong public support.

“The people across the country are spontaneously participating in the vote, which is evidence that their attempt will not succeed, sensing the inevitable victory of the BNP,” he said.

“We hope that the people will make the best use of the voting rights they have regained after a long time.”
