BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said their party will 'restore' democracy in the country through a movement under the leadership of their chairperson Khaleda Zia.
"Now democracy in the country has been snatched. We have been on a movement to bring it back. Let's all join our movement and we'll restore democracy under Khaleda Zia's leadership," he said on Friday.
Fakhrul came up with the comments in his brief address before bringing out a rally by BNP's workers' wing Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office, marking its founder Ziaur Rahman's 82nd birth anniversary.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the rally was taken out, led by Fakhrul, by releasing balloons and white pigeons which concluded peacefully at Nayapaltan after parading different roads through Bijoynagar, Kakrail and Shantinagar.
Earlier, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy along with other party leaders and activists cut a cake at the BNP central office arranged by 'Zia Smriti Pathagar' celebrating the party founder's birthday.
