BNP Chairperson has set a goal to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to explore his or her inner talent, which will help build a healthy nation, said BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Saturday.
He made the remarks while speaking at a post-documentary discussion programme.
The documentary, titled “Sobar Aage Hashimukh” (Smile Comes First), was made by filmmaker and CEO of Somoy TV Jobair Babu.
Nazrul Islam Khan said the documentary shows BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman not only as a political leader but also as a compassionate human being who stood beside marginalised people in their time of need.
BNP election stearing committe chief coordinator Md Ismail Jabiullah said: “This is not just a political Tarique Rahman, but a humane leader who thinks about people, the country, and even animals,”
The party will continue talent-hunt programmes in sports and education to prevent brain drain, as outlined in its manifesto, he said.
Jobair Babu while referring to incidents in the documentary, said Amir Hossain, a CNG driver who was burned in a petrol bomb attack in 2005, received support from the party, including assistance to his family who were left fatherless.
He also mentioned that Abdullah, a July 2024 martyr, had a brother named Jisan who was suffering from cancer. Nazrul said the BNP family took responsibility for Jisan’s treatment, and he has now largely recovered.
In another case from 2025, Monira Khatun from Jashore, the mother of a child named Afiya, suffered from severe vision problems and albinism after being abandoned by her husband.
Tarique Rahman extended support to the family, he said.
The documentary also referred to Sohan, a six-year-old footballer, saying Tarique Rahman wants children to get opportunities to develop their talents, especially in sports.
Actor Uzzal, Prof Nahrin A Khan, writer and political analysts Maruf Mallick, Shahed Alam, poet and political analyst Ershad Nabil, senior journalist Ehsan Mahmud, were also present at the programme, among others.
