The boundaries of 39 parliamentary constituencies are going to be delimited (redefined) ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
One Jatiya Sangsad (JS) seat would be added to Gazipur while another seat is decreasing from Bagerhat, Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarker told a briefing at the EC headquarters in the city's Agargaon area on Wednesday.
"According to the report of the technical committee's proposal, one constituency in Bagerhat will be omitted as well as another will be added to Gazipur based on population and number of voters," said Mr Sarker.
Anwarul Islam Sarkar said according to the sub-section of Section 6 of the Delimitation of Constituencies Bill, 2021, three issues must be determined with importance such as administrative system, geographical condition and census.
Based on the updated voter number, the committee has determined the number of voters in a single constituency which is around 4,20,000, he said.
The 39 constituencies of which boundaries will be delimited are Panchagarh-1 and 2, Rangpur-3, Sirajganj-1 and 2, Satkhira-3 and 4, Shariatpur-2 and 3, Dhaka-2, 3, 7, 10, 14 and 19, Gazipur-1, 2, 3, 5 and 6, Narayanganj-3, 4 and 5, Sylhet-1 and 3, Brahmanbaria-2 and 3, Cumilla 1, 2, 10 and 11, Noakhali 1, 2, 4 and 5, Chattogram-7 and 8 and Bagerhat-2 and 3.
