A case has been filed with Tejgaon Police Station against unidentified individuals following the murder of 44-year-old BNP volunteer wing leader Azizur Rahman Muchabbir, who was shot dead.

The case was lodged on Thursday by Suraiya Begum, his wife, according to Ibn-e-Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Tejgaon Division. bdnews24.com reports.

On Wednesday night, Muchabbir was socialising with friends on the first floor of Star Hotel in Karwan Bazar, part of his daily routine. At 8:10 pm, he departed for home alongside Sufian Bepari Masud, 40, according to the first information report by law enforcers.

Around 8:20 pm, as they reached the paved road outside the Ahsanullah Institute in Tejturi Bazar, four to five unidentified assailants – who had been lying in wait as part of a premeditated plan -- intercepted them. The attackers then opened fire indiscriminately with pistols with the intent to kill.

The Jatiotabadi Swecchasebak Dal leader was struck by bullets in his right elbow and the right side of his abdomen, causing him to collapse to the ground while bleeding profusely.

When Masud attempted to rescue him, the attackers shot him in the left side of his abdomen as well.

After Masud fell to the ground with critical injuries, the assailants fled the scene, firing their weapons into the air as they retreated, believing both men to be dead.

Local bystanders were unable to intervene to save the victims out of fear for their lives due to the attackers’ firearms.
