Candidates from the pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have pledged to build a “safe and joyful campus” if elected to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) on the final day of campaigning ahead of the election.

The ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon at the university’s Bot Tola, where Abidul Islam Khan, the JCD candidate for vice president, led party candidates in a public pledge.

In their eight-point pledge, the Chhatra Dal candidates vowed to end coercive campus practices, ensure safety and equal rights for women, and improve housing, food, healthcare and transport.

They also promised to combat online threats, strengthen education and cultural activities, and uphold democratic norms with transparency and accountability.

The DUCSU and hall union elections are scheduled for Sept 9, with voting to be held from 8am to 4pm at eight centres.

Candidates of the Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, are vying for 205 out of a total of 262 positions.
