Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alleged on Saturday that the ruling Awami League snatched people's voting rights.

"On the plea of the Constitution, they (the ruling party) are now trying to remain in power by taking away people's voting rights," BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud said as the chief guest at a discussion titled "No alternative to Caretaker Government to resolve the present crisis", organised by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal marking Khaleda Zia's jail release day at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital.

He said that the Constitution is not a religious book that couldn't be amended.

He said that the Constitution could be amended through national consensus.

He said that a section of police, civil officials, politicians and people in judiciary have created a regime that was helping the ruling party to remain in power.
