Crimes against humanity: Arrest warrant issued for Joy

The International Crimes Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case over crimes against humanity for shutting off the internet and causing mass killings during the July Uprising.

A three-member Tribunal-1 bench led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder issued the warrant on Thursday. The next hearing is scheduled for Dec 10, reports bdnews24.com.

At the hearing, the tribunal took cognisance of formal charges against Joy, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former law minister Anisul Huq and former private industry and investment advisor Salman F Rahman. Three of the suspects, aside from Joy, are already in jail.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution in the tribunal. He applied for an arrest warrant against the absconding accused in the case, and the tribunal granted it.

The prosecution submitted formal charges against Joy, Palak, Anisul and Salman. Tamim said that he had received the investigation report against them on Wednesday evening.
