Dhaka North City Corporation has cleared 148 tonnes of waste from Purbachal’s July 36 Expressway, commonly known as the 300 Feet Road, where BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman attended a reception upon returning home after 17 years in exile.
In a statement on Friday, the DNCC said it used 20 trucks to remove the waste from the area and dump it at the Aminbazar landfill. A total of 350 DNCC staff conducted the cleaning operation from Friday morning.
The road was opened to traffic on Friday afternoon, the DNCC said.
The BNP used the road as the venue to welcome back its de facto leader Tarqiue on Thursday. Tarique went directly to his mother’s bedside at Evercare Hospital after attending the homecoming reception.
The DNCC said BNP’s local leaders and activists also helped its staff run the cleaning operation.
