BNP leaders said on Monday the government must take the responsibility if anything untoward happens to ailing Khaleda Zia.

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said Khaleda Zia is seriously ill and she immediately needs to go abroad for liver transplant.

He made the remarks at a doa mahfil seeking early recovery of ailing party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Former student leaders of 90s organised doa mahfil at the party's headquarters in the capital's Nayapaltan area.

Mentioning the government's stance that legally it is not possible for the government to allow Begum Zia to go abroad for treatment he said, "When the issue to save a person's life comes first then humanity should also be considered to be a law".

He said as per Geneva Convention Begum Khaleda Zia is entitled to receive treatment abroad.

Meanwhile, BNP vice-chairman advocate Ahmed Azam Khan said they would be able to ensure party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad through ousting the government.

He made the comments at a protest rally demanding Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad and holding national elections under a neutral caretaker government in front of the National Press Club. Professionals Democratic Alliance organised the event.
