Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rakibul Islam Rakib has said the convening committees in Dhaka University (DU)'s residential halls will remain in place.
He told this while talking to journalists following a meeting with the DU Vice-Chancellor on Thursday.
The meeting was held to discuss the framework of student politics in the university's residential halls and the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).
"Today we met the administration to get an update on the discussion held on August 9 regarding the nature of student politics in the halls. The university authorities informed us that a committee has been formed to determine the structure of hall-level student politics. Opinions from 23 student organizations have already been collected, and views will now also be gathered from general students. Our hall committees will remain in place," he said.
On the issue of clandestine politics, he noted that teachers themselves have acknowledged that Islami Chhatra Shibir is hiding its identity and taking control of socio-cultural organizations, much like Chhatra League has. Many of the major crises at the university following the mass uprising were caused by underground politics. We have been assured that the plan will include measures to end clandestine political activities.
Rakib stated, "We demanded that the identified Chhatra League terrorists be brought to justice.”
