During the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections 2025, a female voter alleged that her ballot paper had already been marked in favour of two candidates at the TSC polling centre. However, Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jashim Uddin, in a press release, stated that the voter's behaviour inside the polling booth appeared "suspicious".
According to the release, the incident took place at around 11:00 am on September 9. The student claimed that her ballot had pre-marked crosses. Election officials then set aside that ballot, issued her a new one, and allowed her to cast vote again.
Following the incident, the university administration was asked to form an inquiry committee. Accounts from the teachers present at the scene reportedly supported the version given by the polling centre chief.
The press release further mentioned that video footage showed that the student entered the booth four times - first for 40 seconds, then for 66 seconds, later for 2.0 seconds, and finally for more than 10 minutes. During these periods, she not only stayed inside the booth, but was also seen conversing with several people.
"She did cast her vote and left the centre. But her repeated entry into the booth and conversations with others appeared questionable and suspicious to us. We are taking this matter seriously and will investigate further," said Professor Jashim Uddin.
