DUCSU election: Left bloc names Emi for vice president, Meghmallar for general secretary

The leftist alliance has unveiled its panel for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, naming Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi as candidate for vice president and Meghmallar Basu for general secretary.

Meghmallar is the president of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, and Emi earlier served as VP of Shamsunnahar Hall, reports bdnews24.com.

The announcement was made on Monday at a media briefing at the chief returning officer’s office by Jabir Ahmed Jubel, general secretary of Revolutionary Students’ Unity, who will contest for assistant general secretary.

The panel combines Chhatra Union, Socialist Students’ Front, Revolutionary Students’ Unity, Students’ Council, Students’ Youth Movement, Hill Students’ Council, Democratic Students’ Platform and general students.

Mozammel Haque of the Socialist Students’ Front will run for the Liberation War and democratic movements affairs secretary. Other nominees will be revealed on Tuesday.

The Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir announced a full 28-member panel, with Sadiq Kayem for VP and SM Forhad for GS. Voting is set for Sept 9.
