The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the nomination of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate in the Cumilla-4 constituency, over allegations of loan default.
The decision was announced on Saturday (January 17) after a hearing held at 4:00 pm at the Basement-2 auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, as per local media reports.
Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah, the National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate from the same constituency, filed an appeal with the EC seeking an explanation as to why Munshi’s nomination should not be cancelled on grounds of loan default.
Hasnat Abdullah is contesting the Cumilla-4 seat as the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.
