The Election Commission (EC) approved 58 more appeals on the nomination papers rejected by the returning officers on Sunday, the second day of hearings.
Besides, seven appeals were ruled out and six others kept pending to give verdict on them later after the appellants meet the requirements suggested at the hearings.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of the Nagorik Oikya, regained his candidacy for the Bogura-2 constituency. He will also contest the race for Dhaka-18 electoral seat.
The EC held hearings at its auditorium of the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin along with Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Begum Tahmida Ahmad, Brig. Gen. Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (Retd.) and EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed conducted the hearings.
Some 70 appeals were disposed of on Sunday while an additional decision was also made in favour of Munshiganj-3 independent candidate Mohiuddin that was pending on Saturday. Of the total appellants majority or 20 were independent candidates, seven were from Khelafat Majlish.
A total of 109 candidates regained their validity through appeal after 140 hearings that took place on the first two days.
Hearings on 70 more appeals would be held today (Monday) between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm at the same venue, while the electoral procedure would continue until January 18.
Following submission of the nomination papers by the candidates, returning officers rejected the validity of 723 in the last December.
Later some 645 appeals were filed with the EC challenging the rejections as well as some of the appeals were filed against some valid candidacies.
