The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday accepted 53 more appeals on the fourth day of hearings against the Returning Officers' decisions to accept or reject nomination papers for the 13th national election billed for 12 February.
As a result, 53 candidates have regained and sustained their candidacies.
The EC rejected two appeal applications filed against the acceptance of nomination papers in the Noakhali-5 and Rajshahi-5 constituencies.
As a result, the candidacies of the two candidates in those two constituencies will remain valid.
Following the hearings over the past four days, 203 candidates have regained their candidacies altogether.
A total of 70 appeals were heard on the day. Of them, 53 appeals were accepted, while 17 appeals were rejected.
Hearings on 70 more appeals will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm today (Wednesday) at the auditorium of the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.
