Bangladesh’s next national election will be held by June 30, 2026 at the latest, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday, he said the election could be held as early as December, but it will not go beyond June next year, reports local media.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mzumder announced that Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate a dialogue with political parties on Monday to resume the second phase of reform discussions.
The press conference also highlighted Dr Yunus's recent Japan visit, where six memoranda of understanding were signed. Japan pledged $418 million in budget support and $641 million for rail development. Japan also plans to recruit 100,000 Bangladeshi workers in the next five years, opening new doors for manpower export.
