After a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the national election will be held on time.

“There is no doubt about that. The Chief Adviser has also confirmed this,” he told reporters.

Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami’s allegation that the interim government is planning an arranged election following the London meeting between Dr. Yunus and BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman, Fakhrul said the Chief Adviser has the authority to meet the head of the country’s largest political party.

“It is his jurisdiction,” he added.

The BNP Secretary General also spoke about the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur.

He said, “The attack was a heinous act. We fear there may be attempts to delay the election, but there is no scope for that.”

Around 7 pm on Sunday, the BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, entered the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna.

Other members of the delegation included Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.

Asked about their opinion on banning the Jatiya Party, Fakhrul said the issue was not discussed during the meeting.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Chief Adviser held meetings with leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
