A former BNP leader was shot dead by some miscreants at Dohar upazila of Nawabganj early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Harun-or-Rashid alias Harun Mater, 65, former president of Nayabari union unit BNP, UNB reports.
Hearing the sound of gunshot, local people went out from their houses and found him lying in a pool of blood on the street in front of a school around 6 am.
Quoting Shaheen, nephew of Harun, officer-in-charge of Dohar Police Station Hasan Ali said Harun was on a morning walk after fazar prayers.
When he reached in front of the school, three people, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted him and opened fire on him, leaving him injured.
Later, he was taken to Dohar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Nusrat Tarin, a doctor of the hospital, said six bullets were found on his head, neck and body.
