Former Awami League leader Prof Abu Sayeed has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He was a part of the committee that drafted the Constitution.
Abu Sayeed was also the Awami League’s state minister for information for five years starting in 1996.
After 1/11, the Awami League’s information and research secretary at the time came to be known as a reformist and was eventually removed from the party leadership.
He joined the BNP on Wednesday afternoon by presenting a bouquet to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
“With extremism rising on all sides, I believe, as a patriot, that the BNP is now the only party behind which we must rally.
“That is why I have joined the BNP,” Abu Sayeed said after joining the party.
